Lucknow Super Giants beat CSK after explosive knock from Mitchell Marsh

Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings. After an early collapse, Kartik Sharma and Shivam Dube rescued CSK and guided them to 187.

Already eliminated, LSG still produced a strong chase and won with 20 balls remaining. The loss will hurt CSK’s playoff hopes, as they now must win their remaining two matches and hope Punjab Kings lose to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming game.

Kartik Sharma revives CSK after top-order collapse

CSK were under pressure after early wickets, with Sanju Samson scoring 20 off 20, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad managing 13, and Urvil Patel falling early, leaving the side reeling at 53/3 when Kartik arrived at the crease. After a cautious start against Mayank Yadav, Kartik shifted momentum with fearless stroke play, attacking Shahbaz Ahmed and Prince Yadav with powerful boundaries and bringing up his fifty with a huge six off Mohammed Shami.

Alongside Dube’s quick 32 off 16, Kartik rebuilt the innings brilliantly before falling for a superb 71 off 42, caught by Aiden Markram at long-on. By then, his counter-attacking knock had revived CSK from a precarious position.

Akash Singh and Mayank Yadav shine for LSG with the ball

Akash Singh and Mayank Yadav led LSG’s bowling attack with pace and discipline. Akash starred with the new ball, dismissing Gaikwad, Samson and Urvil to put CSK under early pressure, while Mayank’s express pace kept the batters in check through the middle overs.

However, Shami, Prince Yadav and Shahbaz Ahmed proved expensive against the counter-attack from Kartik and Dube.

Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis power LSG with a dominant 135 run opening stand

Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis dominated the chase with a brilliant 135-run opening partnership that put LSG firmly in control. Marsh was destructive throughout, smashing 90 off just 38 balls with fearless hitting against bowlers like Anshul Kamboj, Spencer Johnson and Mukesh Choudhary, while Inglis played the perfect supporting role with a steady 36 off 32.

CSK finally broke the stand when Mukesh dismissed Inglis, and Marsh departed soon after, in unlucky fashion, as a straight drive from Nicholas Pooran deflected off Mukesh’s hand onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end, catching him short of the crease.

Sudden collapse for LSG as CSK bowlers find their rhythm

After the dismissals of Marsh and Inglis, LSG suffered a middle-order collapse as CSK fought back into the game. While Marsh had made the chase look easy with his fearless stroke play, the rest of the batters struggled once he departed. Nicholas Pooran found it difficult to score freely against the tight bowling, especially from Noor Ahmad, whose googlies, variations and disciplined spell created constant pressure in the middle overs.

Abdul Samad tried to shift momentum instantly with a huge six off Johnson, but Johnson responded brilliantly in the next ball by bowling him out. After an expensive start, Johnson improved strongly towards the end with better lengths and extra pace to bring CSK back into the contest.

Pooran powers LSG home after expensive over from Kamboj

Pooran finished the chase in brutal fashion, smashing four consecutive sixes off Kamboj in the 17th over to seal a seven-wicket win for Lucknow Super Giants. One of the sixes was nearly caught by Kartik Sharma at deep mid-wicket, but the ball burst through his hands and went over the ropes as Pooran’s late aggression completed the victory in style.
