ICC meeting adjourned for a later date

The ICC Board held a brief meeting, on Friday,  in order to find a favourable outcome for the Men’s Champions Trophy slated to be held early next year. The Board is set to reconvene again tomorrow or in the next few days. Representatives of all full member countries were in attendance in the virtual meeting. As per the initial framework, Pakistan were scheduled to host the entire duration of the event. 

The ICC is hopeful of coming out with a plausible solution to hold the tournament as scheduled. As per sources, Pakistan Cricket Board are sticking to its stance of not holding the event via a hybrid model, where all of India’s matches would be held at a neutral venue, with the rest of the games being hosted by Pakistan. This particular model was proposed in the backdrop of India deciding not to travel to Pakistan due to long-standing political tensions and security concerns. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated Board of Control for Cricket in India’s statement when he was asked about the national side partaking in the Champions Trophy. “The BCCI has issued a statement. They have said that there are security concerns there and therefore it is unlikely that the team will be going there…” he said during his Friday’s press conference in Delhi.

The Rohit dilemma, and India’s preparation for Perth Test

Rohit is still in India and is unlikely to play the Perth Test. (PC: X.com) On Saturday morning, a day after Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh welcomed their second child, a baby boy, a story was doing the rounds that the India captain would be off to Australia by November 18 and would be available for the Perth Test.  A source in the know, however, told RevSportz that the Indian team was yet to receive any update on Rohit’s arrival Down Under. By evening, reports emerged that the skipper has decided to skip the series opener to spend some time with his family. He would be available from the second Test in Adelaide instead.  There’s no official word yet from the BCCI and the dilemma remains over Rohit’s availability in the series opener.
