On Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Yashasvi Jaiswal added another feather to his cap by becoming the joint-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 runs in Test cricket.

The young left-hander achieved the milestone with his 10th run in the second innings, reaching the mark in his 40th Test innings — a record he now shares with Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.

At just 23 years and 188 days old, Jaiswal is also the second-youngest Indian to reach this landmark. Only the great Sachin Tendulkar achieved it at a younger age — 20 years and 330 days.

Fewest innings to 2,000 Test runs (India):

40 – Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Yashasvi Jaiswal

43 – Vijay Hazare, Gautam Gambhir

44 – Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar

 45 – Sourav Ganguly

 46 – Cheteshwar Pujara

Jaiswal played a brilliant knock of 87 runs from 107 balls, including 13 boundaries, in the first innings. In the second innings, he made a promising start but was dismissed LBW by Josh Tongue after scoring 28. The left-hander had also struck a fine century in the opening Test at Leeds, helping India post a solid first-innings total.

Jaiswal has also reached 4,000 first-class runs in his 40th match. He boasts a remarkable average of 59 at the first-class level, which includes 14 centuries and an equal number of half-centuries.
