Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan produced a sensational knock of 77 to guide India to a commanding 61-run victory over Pakistan in the 27th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Kishan was adjudged Player of the Match for his match-winning effort. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said: “I think the wicket was not that easy in the beginning, but sometimes you just have to believe what you want to play, what shots are on, and you have to just focus on your strength. So I was just keeping it simple and watching the ball and playing with the field, maybe trying to make them run as much as they can, but yeah, I think it worked pretty well on my side.”

“I think I did work a lot on my offside game and it will give me the balls where I want them to bowl if I play good shots on offside. So I was just trying to hit the gaps because it’s a big boundary and when it’s a big ground you get a bigger gap,” he added.

Pakistan drew first blood by dismissing opener Abhishek Sharma in the opening over. However, Kishan steadied the innings and stitched a crucial 87-run partnership off 46 balls with Tilak Varma. Notably, Kishan scored 76 of those 87 runs, highlighting his dominance during the stand.

The Jharkhand batter smashed 10 fours and three sixes in his 40-ball stay, striking at an impressive rate of 192.50, ensuring India posted 175/7 in their 20 overs.

With this knock, Kishan has climbed to second place on the tournament’s run-scoring charts, amassing 158 runs in three innings at an average of 52.66 and a remarkable strike rate of 197.50.
