Ranji Trophy final: Paras Dogra Breaks Silence on Headbutt Row
Jammu & Kashmir skipper Paras Dogra defused the tension that arose due to his physical altercation with Karnataka’s KV Aneesh during the second day of the Ranji Trophy final in Hubballi on Wednesday.
Dogra made headlines after he headbutted Aneesh when the latter said a few words that triggered the veteran batter.
The flashpoint came in the 14th over of the morning session, when Dogra edged a ball past gully while clumsily attempting to deal with a sharply directed bouncer from Prasidh Krishna, who has three wickets sk far in the game.
Aneesh, who was standing at silly point as a substitute, appeared to have sledged Dogra, which prompted the 41-year-old to charge at the Karnataka player. Senior Karnataka players such as KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and captain Devdutt Padikkal intervened, as did the umpires. Upon realising his mistake, Dogra raised his hand in apology and also apologised to Aneesh.
“It was just a little heat-of-the-moment thing, not a big deal,” Dogra said after the day’s play. “Yeah, it is all settled now. […] It was momentary. We started talking and chatting after that, so it’s all well.”
Dogra made a hard-fought 70 after being retired hurt on the opening day, as his team finished the second day on 527 for 6.
“Very good, to be honest,” Dogra said. “We are in a good position. That’s what matters to me. All that keeps happening, especially when you are playing a final or something like that, a bit of it happens.”
Sahil Lotra and Abid Mushtaq will resume for J&K as the visitors look to post a mammoth first-innings total against the star-studded Karnataka batting line-up.
