Following their triumph at the T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian cricket team will now turn its attention to the 50-over format leading up to next year’s World Cup in South Africa. The next 12 months promise to be extremely demanding for Indian players due to a packed international and domestic schedule.

The immediate focus will be the Indian Premier League 2026. Soon after the IPL, India will host Afghanistan for a short series comprising one Test and three ODIs between June 6 and 20. The solitary Test will take place in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10. The ODI leg of the series will follow with matches in Dharamsala on June 14, Lucknow on June 17, and Chennai on June 20.

The Indian team will then travel to the United Kingdom for a white-ball series against England between July 1 and July 19. The tour includes five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals. The T20Is will be played at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street (July 1), Old Trafford, Manchester (July 4), Trent Bridge, Nottingham (July 7), Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol (July 9), and The Rose Bowl, Southampton (July 11). The ODI matches are scheduled at Edgbaston, Birmingham (July 14), Sophia Gardens, Cardiff (July 16), and Lord’s (July 19).

There are also ongoing discussions between the BCCI and Cricket Ireland regarding a possible three-match series in Dublin. The matches could be scheduled either before or after India’s white-ball tour of England.

After the England tour, India is set to travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series that is already part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP). Additionally, both the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket are exploring the possibility of adding a three-match T20I series during the tour. These matches are expected to serve as fundraisers for Sri Lanka’s flood relief efforts after Cyclone Ditwah struck the island last November.

September could be another busy period for the Indian side. India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for six white-ball matches — three ODIs and three T20Is. However, the series will depend on clearance from the Indian government due to recent diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Discussions are also underway for a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates during the same month. Additionally, there have been talks about a short tour of Zimbabwe later in the year, although it has not been finalised.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are expected to tour India around the same period for an eight-match white-ball series consisting three ODIs and five T20Is, which could extend into October. The scheduling becomes even more complicated with the 2026 Asian Games set to take place from September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya, Japan. There is a possibility that the BCCI may field two different Indian squads simultaneously — one for the Asian Games and another for the ODI series against the West Indies.

India’s international commitments will continue with the tour of New Zealand beginning on October 18. The tour will feature five ODIs, three T20Is, and two Tests. After returning from New Zealand in the first week of December, India will host Sri Lanka for another white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is. The home season will then culminate with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to be played in India in January and February 2027.
