MCA inaugurates Women’s T20 Mumbai League in presence of Rohit Sharma and Sayali Satghare

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has launched the women’s edition of the T20 Mumbai League, marking a major step in expanding opportunities for women’s cricket in the city.

The franchise-based tournament already features a men’s competition, and the new women’s league will now run alongside the men’s tournament.

The men’s league features eight teams, while the women’s tournament will begin with three teams. The tournament is expected to be held after the Indian Premier League.

Former India Men’s team captain Rohit Sharma unveiled the trophies for the upcoming men’s and women’s editions in Mumbai on March 14 and spoke about how the league has helped young cricketers grow.

“I’m very happy with how Mumbai cricket is shaping up – not just in the IPL team, but also with what the T20 Mumbai League has done for many young cricketers. We saw so many cricketers who played in the T20 Mumbai now go on to play for IPL teams and the national team as well… This year, there are three women’s teams as well, so it’s getting bigger,” Rohit said.

The women’s teams will be operated by PRS Infraprojects LLP, Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd, and World Star Sporting Private Limited. The MCA is yet to release the schedule for the tournaments, which is expected to be announced after the full IPL schedule.

Mumbai Women’s team all-rounder Sayali Satghare praised the initiative by MCA and welcomed the opportunity it creates for women’s cricket.

“Mumbai has always been a city that lives and breathes cricket, and it means a lot to see a dedicated platform now being created for women as well. I would like to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association for taking this important step and investing in the future of women’s cricket. The T20 Mumbai Women’s League will give many young girls the opportunity to dream bigger, compete at a high level and believe that they too can represent Mumbai and India one day.”
