Naqvi cracks down on players ditching PSL for IPL
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has vowed to take action against all players who pull out of the Pakistan Super League at the eleventh hour to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Naqvi cited last year’s example of Corbin Bosch, who was a diamond pick for Peshawar Zalmi in the previous PSL edition before pulling out in order to play for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Ahead of this year’s PSL, a host of players, including Gudakesh Motie, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Ottneil Baartman, Spencer Johnson and Dasun Shanaka, have withdrawn. Reportedly, some of these players are in contact with IPL franchises for the upcoming season.
Naqvi has warned players of the consequences they will face for skipping the PSL after being picked by their respective teams in the auction.
“We will take action against those players according to the rules,” Naqvi said on Sunday. “There was a case last year too [Corbin Bosch, who was banned from the PSL for one year], and the same thing will happen this time.”
This will be the second consecutive year that the PSL will clash with the IPL. Naqvi has no issues with the scheduling, as the international calendar remains tight.
“Clashing with the IPL is not an issue because if players are going there, we’re getting excellent players coming here as well. We could not afford to postpone the PSL because we have no other window all year,” Naqvi added.
The PSL is scheduled to begin on March 26, and this year it will be played behind closed doors. All the matches will be played in Lahore and Karachi.
