India batter Rohit Sharma is optimistic that the current wave of success from the men’s and women’s teams will push Indian cricket ahead and strengthen its global supremacy.

The last two years have been special for Indian cricket. Five ICC trophies – the T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy, Women’s U19 World Cup, Men’s U19 World Cup and T20 World Cup 2026 – are now in the cabinet. Across different levels, India has been winning. No other team besides India has managed to claim any ICC trophy in the last two years. Rohit, who has lifted two trophies as captain during this period, feels this is just the beginning of a long winning run.

“I am very happy and very proud to see what we have achieved over the last couple of years. To come out with flying colours and accomplish what we have, not just the men’s team but also the women’s team winning that World Cup in Mumbai, was fantastic to watch,” Rohit said in Mumbai during the launch of the Women’s T20 Mumbai League. “Recently, what the men’s team did was phenomenal. I hope this is just the start; there is no looking back from here because once you gain that momentum… we often talk about momentum, and now both the men’s and women’s teams have it. All I hope is that we carry this momentum forward.”

Later this year, the Indian women’s team will be looking to win their maiden T20 World Cup, which will be held in England, to continue India’s unbeaten run in ICC events.
