CSK vs PBKS: “I am like this”: Priyansh Arya opens up after match-winning knock against Super Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) young batter Priyansh Arya delivered a match-winning knock to guide his side to their second consecutive win in the IPL 2026. PBKS defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

During the post match presentation, Arya opened up about his aggressive approach. “I am a little like this from when I was young, and because it benefits the team, I play in this fashion,” Arya told the host broadcasters. “There is a risk but I have belief in myself that I can hit the first ball.”

Arya came in as the impact substitute and gave an explosive start to Punjab. The 24-year-old smashed 39 runs off 11 balls including three boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 354.54.  He stitched a 61-run opening stand with Prabhsimran Singh (44). His impressive efforts at the top earned him the Player of the match award.

Arya also shared his transition from domestic cricket to IPL. “There is a bit of difference because the bowlers are experienced, and it helps to have belief in myself,” he said. “I do two sessions of batting each day, and those sessions are for 1-1.5 hours each. I love batting.”

Apart from Arya, captain Shreyas Iyer (50) and Cooper Connolly (36) added crucial runs while chasing a strong target of 210 runs. Shashank Singh (14*) and Marcus Stoinis (9*) provided the finishing touches which helped Punjab to finish the game in 18.4 overs.

With the ball, Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up two crucial wickets for Punjab. Meanwhile, Xavier Bartlett, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with a wicket each to ensure CSK don’t push their total further.

PBKS will next meet Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 6 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
