The fifth match of the TATA IPL 2026 between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals displayed a true masterclass in bowling from both sides. The Ekana Stadium proved to be a bowling paradise, provided that proper lengths were bowled. In the first innings, LSG were dismissed for 141 runs in 18.4 overs, and in response, DC chased down the target in 17.1 overs with six wickets in hand.

Having won the toss, DC skipper Axar Patel did not hesitate to field first. In a surprising move from LSG, captain Rishabh Pant came in to open the innings with Mitchell Marsh. As he looked comfortable with a straight drive past the bowler, he was run out at the non-striker’s end. The batting line-up of LSG completely crumbled under the bowling attack of Lungi Ngidi, T Natarajan, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.

DC maintained control through disciplined powerplay bowling, not allowing LSG batters to free their arms. Axar Patel, taking responsibility in the final over of the powerplay, showed strong leadership. Despite being hit for a six by Aiden Markram, he responded immediately by bowling him on the next delivery.

The middle overs belonged to Kuldeep Yadav, who bowled with excellent control and variation. Sticking to a consistent good length and targeting the stumps, he mixed his googlies smartly, forcing batters like Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran into defensive play and mistimed shots. Marsh tried to counterattack but eventually fell for 35, triggering a collapse in the LSG line-up.

In the death overs, T Natarajan executed a near-perfect spell, relying on pinpoint yorkers and wide yorkers to deny scoring opportunities. His accuracy ensured that even a fighting cameo of 36 from 25 balls by Abdul Samad could not shift the momentum, as he picked up crucial wickets under pressure.

The batting collapse of LSG was inevitable as they crumbled under pressure, with most batters scoring in single digits. It was Shahbaz Ahmed who was left stranded at the non-striker’s end when LSG were bowled out.

With Ngidi (3/27), Natarajan (3/29), and Kuldeep (2/31) leading the attack, Delhi Capitals showcased a complete bowling performance built on tight lines and disciplined lengths.

In the second innings, Shami continued his excellent domestic form and dismissed KL Rahul for a golden duck. What followed was a major batting collapse for Delhi Capitals. Prince Yadav played a crucial role with the ball, dismissing Nissanka for one run and Axar Patel for a duck. Mohsin Khan was also quick to dismiss Nitish Rana early on.

In an interesting move from LSG, Shami completed his spell in the ninth over, leaving LSG to fall back on Shahbaz Ahmed. In his first over, Shahbaz conceded sixteen runs. It was the partnership between Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs that kept the match alive for DC. They rotated the strike well and avoided unnecessary risks.

Rizvi stayed calm, trusted his instincts and played the role of an anchor. He came in when DC were four wickets down and held his ground. Initially, he started his innings cautiously but later took control, playing shots all around the ground. Having scored a fifty, he ensured he saw the chase through and finished the game for his team. His composure, along with a 119-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs, helped DC seal their first victory of the tournament.
