DC vs RCB: Hazlewood Dissects Bowling Partnership with Bhuvneshwar in RCB Win
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Josh Hazlewood delivered a match-winning spell to guide his side to a commanding nine-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 27.
Hazlewood emerged as the most successful bowler in the game with a stunning four-wicket haul. He first struck in the second over, dismissing KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi in back-to-back deliveries. He later removed Nitish Rana and impact substitute Abishek Porel to complete his four-wicket haul, conceding just 12 runs from 3.3 overs at an economy rate of 3.42.
During the post-match presentation, Player of the Match Hazlewood reflected on the team’s performance. “Probably turning up here after 500-plus runs in the last game, we were not sure what was going to happen,” the Australian pacer said. “I was just following his (Bhuvneshwar’s) lead. There was a bit there in the first six overs, enough to work with, and it was skidding on quickly from a short-of-a-length. Once the ball got soft, it became more even.”
Hazlewood was well supported by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who picked up three early wickets to rattle the batting line-up with a fine display of swing bowling. RCB restricted DC to the lowest total of the season- 75 in 16.3 overs.
“We have picked up from where we left off last season. We summed up conditions quickly and adapted our games (on the road in 2025). It feels like we are hitting our straps again at the right time,” Hazlewood added.
While chasing, RCB finished the game inside seven overs with contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (34*), Virat Kohli (23*) and Jacob Bethell (20).
Captain Rajat Patidar hailed the bowlers for their strong performance and highlighted their importance in the tournament. “Even I am surprised,” Patidar said. “All credit to the bowlers- Hazlewood and Bhuvi for the way they bowled in the powerplay. The good thing was that we got early wickets, which kept us in the driving seat… You should have a strong bowling attack (on flat pitches in T20 cricket) because only bowlers can win you championships.”
RCB will now move to Ahmedabad for their clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 30.
