Rinku Singh couldn’t hold back his emotions after returning to the dressing room following Kolkata Knight Riders’ four-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 19. Chasing a target of 156, KKR faltered badly, losing six wickets for 85 runs. However, Rinku (53* off 34 balls) and Anukul Roy (29* off 16 balls) put together an unbeaten 76-run partnership to guide the team home with two balls to spare.

Rinku also had a slice of luck, as Nandre Burger dropped a straightforward catch off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling when he was on just 8. The 28-year-old was honest enough to admit after the match that fortune played a significant role in his innings.

“At times the mind doesn’t work properly and you end up playing such shots. But thankfully, luck was on my side and we eventually won the match,” Rinku said after the match to the host broadcaster.

The last couple of months have been very difficult for Rinku. He lost his father during the T20 World Cup campaign. There was mounting pressure on the KKR vice-captain as he had accumulated only 79 runs from five games at a strike rate of 117.91 before Sunday’s fixture against Rajasthan Royals. Rinku often found himself batting lower down the order, but he had no complaints whatsoever.

“There’s nothing like a fixed position for me. I can bat lower down the order or even at number 4. Wherever the team needs me, I am ready to bat at that position,” Rinku further added.

Rinku Singh’s return to form is a positive sign for the three-time champions, boosting both confidence and balance within the squad. His improved performance adds depth to the batting lineup and provides greater stability in crucial moments.

Meanwhile, the side led by Ajinkya Rahane will enjoy a week-long break, giving players time to rest, recover, and fine-tune their strategies. KKR will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) next Sunday (April 26) in Lucknow, where they will aim to carry forward the momentum.
