KKR vs LSG: Pant blown away by Mukul Choudhary’s fearless hitting show
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant was elated to see Mukul Choudhary replicate his form in the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday, helping his team pull off a win from the jaws of defeat in Kolkata.
Choudhary slammed a whirlwind 54 off just 27 balls to complete the chase of 182 on a tricky batting surface. His innings was laced with seven sixes and two fours. The tall right-handed batter batted with the tail but still managed to guide his team to victory. Having seen him from close quarters, Pant was delighted to see the young batter execute his plans and finish the game for LSG.
“When we see him (Mukul) in the nets, you can tell what he’s capable of. But when you do it in a match, it just feels amazing,” Pant said after the match. “I don’t have words to describe it. I’m just overwhelmed by the match—what a fantastic effort.”
Before Choudhary, it was Ayush Badoni who kept his team in the hunt. Badoni’s 54 off 34 ensured that, despite wickets falling, the required run rate never went out of control. Although he couldn’t stay till the end, he played a vital role in the team’s win.
“This is what he’s become—almost a senior pro in our team now. That’s the kind of role we’ve given him, and we trust him. In the first two matches, he didn’t get going, but in a situation like this, he delivered. When we talk about Badoni, these are the kinds of situations you want to see him in. And he played an amazing role today,” Pant lauded Badoni.
Two uncapped players propelled LSG past the finish line at Eden Gardens in a game that went down to the last ball.
