PBKS vs LSG: Punjab Kings Put on a Run Show to Humble Lucknow Super Giants
A record-breaking partnership between Priyansh Arya (93) and Cooper Connolly (87), following the early dismissal of Prabhsimran Singh, helped Punjab Kings post the highest total of IPL 2026 – 254 – and set a daunting target for a struggling Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) side in New Chandigarh. The 54-run victory kept PBKS unbeaten in the tournament.
The Arya–Connolly Show in Mullanpur
PBKS got off to a dreadful start, with the in-form Prabhsimran dismissed for a duck in the very first over. LSG’s bowling unit has been among the most effective in the Powerplay, but after that initial breakthrough, the contest turned largely one-sided. Arya took an aggressive approach from the outset, attacking with confidence and intent, while Connolly began cautiously before accelerating once he was set. A boundary and a six off Ayush Badoni helped the Australian find his rhythm, after which runs flowed freely to all parts of the ground. An over from Aiden Markram proved particularly costly, yielding 32 runs, as Arya kept up the pressure at the other end, making it a difficult outing for the bowlers.
The 182-run stand for the second wicket between Arya and Connolly was only the third instance of a 150-plus partnership for the franchise. After the crucial stand was broken, Punjab Kings lost a few wickets in quick succession. However, Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh steadied the innings and ensured the total crossed the 250-run mark.
Prince Yadav the Lone Bright Spot for LSG Attack
Prince Yadav continued his impressive run, underlining why the LSG management has persisted with him despite Mayank Yadav being fit and available. One of the most effective pacers in the Powerplay this season, Prince once again justified the faith shown in him by returning figures of 2/25 from his four overs. On a surface where the opposition posted over 250 and the rest of the attack conceded runs at an economy rate exceeding 14, his spell stood out. He gave away just two boundaries in his 24 deliveries and bowled the final over, conceding only five runs. Prince continues to go from strength to strength.
LSG’s Experiment Falls Flat in Steep Chase
Chasing 255, LSG made a surprising early move by promoting Badoni to open alongside Mitchell Marsh. Badoni scored 35 off 21 balls but failed to convert it into a substantial innings. The experiment did not deliver the desired results. Although a 61-run opening stand provided a solid platform, the target proved well beyond reach. By sending Badoni up the order, LSG attempted to unsettle the PBKS bowlers early, but the hosts had already set a formidable total.
Top Order Fails to Convert; Pooran’s Struggles Continue
Marsh (49), Badoni (35) and Rishabh Pant (43) all made starts but failed to convert them into significant scores, unlike Arya and Connolly. Compounding LSG’s woes is the prolonged dip in form of Nicholas Pooran. Batting at No. 4, the left-hand batter managed just nine runs at a strike-rate of 100, taking his tally to 51 runs across six innings this season. Pooran appears to be trying too hard rather than sticking to basics, and his continued struggles have hurt LSG. If this trend persists, the Lucknow-based side could find themselves slipping out of the play-off race.
