SRH vs CSK: “We executed it well” – Eshan Malinga after three-wicket haul
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Eshan Malinga delivered a match-winning spell against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 29 in his four overs to earn the Player of the Match award.
Speaking during the post-match presentation, Malinga shared insights into his strategy, the conditions, and how he planned to deceive the CSK batters.
Emphasising the team’s preparation, he said, “We had a good plan as a bowling team, and we understand the behaviour of the Hyderabad wicket. After 10 overs, the ball starts to reverse, and we executed it well.”
After setting a challenging target of 195, SRH bowlers held their nerve to restrict CSK to 184/8, sealing a 10-run win in Hyderabad and registering their third victory of the season.
While Malinga led the attack with three wickets, he was well supported by Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivang Kumar, and Sakib Hussain.
When asked about his approach with the ball, Malinga highlighted his instinctive decision-making. “Ishan asked me what kind of deliveries I was going to bowl, but I decide that while running in through my bowling mark, I figure out what to bowl,” he said.
A key factor behind his success was his effective use of reverse swing in the latter stages of the innings. As the conditions began to favour the bowlers, Malinga made full use of it.
“Reverse is very important for me and the other bowlers. It becomes a wicket-taking option, and once we get it, batters really struggle to hit it,” he explained.
With this performance, Malinga has now become SRH’s leading wicket-taker this season, with eight wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 9.73.
