DC vs CSK: “I had to be a bit too selfish to get a hundred…” – Sanju Samson after missing century against Delhi

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Sanju Samson played a match-winning unbeaten 87-run knock to guide his side to a dominant eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in their IPL 2026 clash on May 5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
During the post-match presentation, Player of the Match Samson spoke about his calm approach. “I have been working a bit on my initial movement and it has been coming off,” Samson said. “I’ve been doing it for the last few years and it’s tactical as well depending on the bowlers and how you want to approach them … to be very honest I am always like this (calm) but you are seeing me more in the middle now so you feel I am calm, even outside I am calm.”
Samson led the chase with a stunning unbeaten 87 off 52 balls. He found the gaps and kept the scoreboard moving. His knock was laced with seven boundaries and six maximums at a strike rate of 167.30.
He further added, “Looking at what we were chasing, how the wicket was behaving, even if we were 35 for no loss in the powerplay, we could capitalise in the middle overs.”
Reflecting on his missed century, Samson said, “I had to be a bit too selfish to get a hundred so I thought lets win the game… finishing not out, winning the game gives you more satisfaction.” He missed out on his hundred despite 15 balls being left in the chase. He has already scored two centuries this season and has now taken his tally to 402 runs from 10 innings, at an average of 57.42 and a strike rate of 167.50.
With this win, CSK move to sixth on the points table with five wins from 10 matches. They will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 10 in Chennai.
