Delhi Capitals sealed a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first, RR put up a total of 225 on the scoreboard but the Delhi Capitals batters chased it down with five balls to spare.

Here are some of the highlights from the match:

Starc strikes on comeback as RR openers fall early

Delhi Capitals made an electric start with the ball against Rajasthan Royals, picking up two crucial wickets inside the powerplay. Mitchell Starc marked his comeback in style, post a long injury lay off, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal off his second delivery after being smashed for a six in the first ball. Jaiswal miscued a full toss, with Starc completing a sharp catch. Kiwi pacer, Kyle Jamieson followed up brilliantly, removing the in-form prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Starc also made his presence felt in the death overs when he dismissed Ravindra Jadeja and set batter Riyan Parag to shift the momentum in DC’s favour.

Skipper Parag steps up

Riyan Parag was the topic of discussion in the build up to this game – first for his poor run of form in this year’s IPL and for being caught vaping in the dressing room in their last match. Against DC, RR lost their openers early but captain Parag showed up for his team today and came back among runs. He scored 90 runs off 50 balls at a strike rate of 180. He stitched a crucial 102-run partnership with Dhruv Jurel, who also went on to score 42 runs while playing the second fiddle to Parag.

DC Openers Dominate Powerplay

Delhi Capitals’ openers set up the chase in style, with KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka stitching a crucial 110-run partnership. Nissanka raced to a 26-ball fifty, showcasing intent. He took on the likes of Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger with confidence. DC piled on 70 runs in the first six overs without losing a wicket, laying a solid foundation for the chase. Rahul too looked in complete control, hitting maximums all around the park. He went on to score 75 at a strike rate of 187.5.

Stubbs, Ashutosh Seal Calm Finish

Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma guided Delhi Capitals home with a composed finish after KL Rahul’s dismissal. The duo shifted gears with calculated strokeplay, mixing strike rotation with timely boundaries. With just five needed in the final over, Ashutosh eased the pressure in style, striking a crisp boundary off Brijesh Sharma to seal the chase and taking DC past the line with five balls to spare.
