“I know that if I bowl a good ball, the batter won’t be able to hit it”: RCB spinner, Krunal Pandya on his bowling mindset and small-boundary dimensions.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru spinner, Krunal Pandya has been gaining widespread appreciation for his crucial bowling spells – featuring bouncers as well, which make his bowling stand out for a spinner.
Speaking on JioStar, Krunal Pandya opened up about his approach to bowling on smaller grounds like M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and Wankhede Stadium, where short boundaries can end up putting bowlers under immense pressure.
Krunal acknowledged the challenges that come with bowling at venues like Chinnaswamy, where even slight errors can be punished severely. However, he does not let the dimension of the ground dominate his game play and mindset.
“On grounds like Wankhede or Chinnaswamy, especially Chinnaswamy, the boundaries are small. So, I tell myself that if I bowl a bad ball, it will go for a six, whether it is 80 meters or 50 or 60 meters. Sometimes that creates a negative thought when the boundary is small. So, I take the boundary size out of my mind. I know that if I bowl a good ball, the batter won’t be able to hit it even 30 yards. So, I think that way: if I bowl my best ball, they won’t be able to hit me even on a small ground,”Krunal told JioStar.
This approach allows him to stay confident and just focus on his deliveries instead of overthinking- even when conditions seem heavily skewed in favour of the batters.
In today’s day and age where batting-friendly pitches and smaller grounds dominate the game, such clarity of thought can often be the only key to success. RCB face Lucknow Super Giants today (7th May 2026) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
