Knights Stay Alive: Narine’s Magic and Pandey’s Calm Guide KKR Past MI

KKR Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets at Eden Gardens. The match, which started on Wednesday but concluded on Thursday, featured a comprehensive all-round performance by the Knights. They restricted MI to 147 before chasing the target down in 18.5 overs, slightly boosting their net run rate. Moving forward, KKR will hope that the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings lose their respective matches while simultaneously aiming to win their final league game against the Delhi Capitals on May 24 at Eden Gardens.
Mumbai Indians’ Batting Flops
No one from the Mumbai Indians batting line-up stepped up to take responsibility as KKR’s bowlers ran through the order. It was Corbin Bosch, batting at number eight, who top-scored for MI with a quickfire unbeaten 32 off 18 balls to take his team to a respectable total of 147/8 in 20 overs.
Tilak Varma’s sluggish knock of 20 off 32 balls was heavily criticised by fans on social media, while star players like Rohit Sharma (15 off 13), Suryakumar Yadav (15 off 6), and captain Hardik Pandya (26 off 27) failed to capitalise on their starts. It was yet another disappointing show by the MI batters on what appeared to be a two-paced track at Eden Gardens.
Sunil Narine’s Magic Show Continues
Sunil Narine was simply unplayable once again, producing figures of 1/13 in his four overs, including 16 dot balls. Narine, who boasts the best economy rate in IPL 2026 at 6.40, bowled his 80th full spell with an economy rate of under six. He spun a web around MI’s middle order, completely choking their scoring rate. He now has 14 wickets in the ongoing IPL season.

Saurabh Dubey Impresses
The tall Vidarbha pacer has made a positive impression in this IPL. His debut wicket was England’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler in the game against the Gujarat Titans, after which Buttler even handed him a signed jersey.
Against MI, Dubey was right on the money. He swung the ball while generating good bounce, troubling openers Rohit and Ryan Rickelton. He soon claimed the wicket of Rohit for 15, thanks to a brilliant running catch by Cameron Green, before cleaning up Suryakumar for 15. Notably, all of Dubey’s dismissals so far have been T20 World Cup-winning captains. He finished his four-over spell with impressive figures of 2/34, including 14 dot balls.
Pandey and Powell Power KKR to Victory
Manish Pandey rolled back the years with a composed 45 off 32 deliveries to help KKR cross the finish line. Batting for the first time in IPL 2026, Pandey found support in RovmanPowell. The duo stitched together a 64-run partnership to help KKR secure their sixth win of the season.
After losing Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane, and Green early in the chase, Pandey and Powell steadied the innings and calmed the team’s nerves. Although Powell was dropped during his innings, it did not dent their determination to win the match for the Knights. Jasprit Bumrah eventually dismissed Pandey in the 15th over, while Allah Ghazanfar removed Powell for 40, leaving Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy to complete the chase successfully for KKR.
