Kolkata Witnesses a Celebration of Inclusion as 1,600 Underprivileged and Special Children Experience IPL Magic at Eden Gardens

In a remarkable initiative promoting social inclusion and joy through sports, around 1,600 underprivileged and specially-abled children and individuals from vulnerable communities were brought together to witness the thrilling IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens on May 24 2026.

The initiative aimed to ensure that the excitement and magic of live sporting experiences reached children and young individuals who often remain excluded from such opportunities. Beneficiaries included orphans, autistic children, specially-abled children, visually impaired individuals, rescued survivors of sexual trafficking, and children from marginalized backgrounds.

The initiative was made possible with the generous support of Kolkata Knight Riders, which extended approximately 1,600 match tickets, helping transform a dream into reality for hundreds of children.

Several leading NGOs and social organizations partnered in the initiative, including Child In Need Institute, The Hope Foundation, Autism Bengal, Future Hope, and the Blind Cricket Association of Bengal, among many others. Through collective coordination, nearly 1,200 beneficiaries attended and experienced the match firsthand, many visiting Eden Gardens for the first time in their lives. The atmosphere at Eden Gardens transformed into more than just a cricket match—it became a celebration of inclusion, smiles, and hope. Children cheered passionately, waved flags, celebrated boundaries and wickets, and experienced the joy of belonging in one of cricket’s most iconic venues.

Speaking on the initiative, Subrata Das, O/C dial 100 Kolkata Police and key organizer, emphasized that sports possess a unique ability to unite people beyond social, physical, and economic barriers.

“The objective was simple — no child should feel excluded from experiences that bring happiness and create memories. Witnessing the joy on their faces made every effort worthwhile. KKR gave me tickets only for which I am  hugely grateful to them, I want to continue it in coming years”, said Das.

This initiative serves as a reminder that when sports institutions, civil society organizations, and public agencies work together, they can create meaningful social impact far beyond the boundaries of the playing field.

Many visually impaired cricketers witnessed the match since tickets were given to the cricket association of the blind for Bengal, and what added to their enjoyment was CAB’s initiative in distributing food packets to them.

A delighted Das summed up the day with the words, “Next year if KKR supports me again I will do it with more verve. It has indeed been an effort to remember.
