SRH Defeat RCB But Bengaluru Seal Top 2 Finish, To Take On GT in Qualifier 1

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced a dominant batting display against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to register a commanding 55-run victory in their final league-stage clash in Hyderabad on Friday. With this win SRH will head into the eliminators with momentum and confidence.Whereas RCB will take on GT in Qualifier 1 on May 26.
SRH batters dominate with commanding display
After the early wicket of Travis Head (26), the wicketkeeper-batter duo Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen stitched together a blistering 113-run partnership to keep the pressure on RCB’s bowlers. Klaasen played a fluent knock of 51 runs off 24 balls, including two boundaries and five maximums at a strike rate of 212.50. Kishan complemented him perfectly as he hammered 79 runs off 46 deliveries. His knock was laced with eight boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 171.73to cross the 250-run mark.
Before that, Abhishek Sharma had set the tone early with an explosive 56 runs off 22 balls. The 25-year-old brought up his half-century in just 20 deliveries while smashing four boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 254.54. Nitish Kumar Reddy also provided a late push with an unbeaten 29 off 12 balls at a strike rate of 241.66.
Rasikh and Suyash provide crucial breakthroughs
Pacer Rasikh Salam, Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma were the only wicket-takers for RCB during SRH’s dominant batting display. Rasikh provided the much needed earlybreakthrough by dismissing Head with a pinpoint yorker after the opener smashed three boundaries in his over which endedthe 45-run opening stand leaving SRH at 45/1.
Later Suyash Sharma removed the fearless Abhishek who had earlier survived after Venkatesh Iyer dropped his catch off Rasikh’s delivery in the 5.4 over. The leg-spinner trappedAbhishek with a googly as he miscued it with went straight to Jordan Cox at long-off.
Rasikh returned in the final over to dismiss Kishan on the final ball of the innings .
Eshan and Sakib strike Early for SRH
Pacer duo Eshan Malinga and Sakib Hussain handed SRH early breakthroughs in the powerplay by dismissing Venkatesh Iyer and veteran Virat Kohli. Malinga removed Iyer with a sharp short ball in the fifth over, with Abhishek Sharma taking a good catch at deep mid-wicket. Interestingly, Iyer had earlier dropped Abhishek in the first innings, but the SRH star batter did not make same mistake.
In the very next over, Sakib dismissed Kohli with a clever slower delivery outside off as the RCB batter mistimed his shot straight to Ravichandran Smaran at cover, reducing RCB to 74/2 inside the powerplay. He then removed in-form Devdutt Padikkal troubling RCB early in the innings.
Patidar and Krunal fight goes in vain
While chasing a mammoth target of 256, RCB got off to a strong start with Venkatesh smashing 44 off just 19 balls. However, SRH responded with quick wickets which left RCB struggling at 94/3. Skipper Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya tried to revive the chase with a fighting 84-run stand as they secured a top finish. Patidar led from the front with a crucial 56 off 29 deliveries while Krunal remained unbeaten on 48 off 35 balls, but their efforts were not enough to save RCB from defeat.
Brief Scores: SRH 255/4 (Kishan 79, Abhishek 56, Klaasen 51; Rasikh 2/54) beat to RCB 200/4 (Patidar 56, Vankatesh 44, Krunal 41*; Eshan 2/33) by 55 runs.
