Vaibhav should remain humble and keep his feet firmly on the ground, says proud father Sanjeev Sooryavanshi

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s remarkable rise in Indian cricket continues unabated. Following a sensational IPL 2026 campaign with the Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 237.31, the teenage prodigy has earned his maiden call-up to India’s T20I squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as for the Asian Games.

The announcement of Vaibhav’s inclusion in the senior Indian team was a moment of immense pride and joy for the Sooryavanshi family. The news quickly spread through the locality, drawing a large number of residents to the family’s home to celebrate the achievement. Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, father of Vaibhav is set to travel to Colombo on Sunday to watch him represent India A in the upcoming tri-series. Vaibhav’s uncle, Rajeev, marked the occasion by distributing sweets to well-wishers, while enthusiastic locals set off firecrackers outside the residence. The entire neighbourhood came alive with excitement, creating a truly festive and memorable atmosphere.

“It brings immense happiness to the family. We started nurturing Vaibhav’s cricketing journey when he was five years old. From that moment, I had only one goal—to see him play for the country. I worked very hard for him. Every parent wants their child to succeed in whichever field they choose. As a guardian, I always stood by Vaibhav and supported him. He worked extremely hard, and now he is reaping the rewards,” said an elated Sanjeev, Vaibhav’s father, to Revsportz.

The Sooryavanshi family had anticipated Vaibhav’s selection in the senior team following his performances in the recently concluded IPL.

“Yes, there was always an anticipation because he (Vaibhav) was consistently performing well. He performed exceptionally well in the Under-19 World Cup. Everyone is aware of his achievements. He scored the most runs in the IPL and had the highest strike rate. Based on all of this, we believed he would get an opportunity sooner than later. He continued to work hard and persevere, and eventually, his chance came. When he received the opportunity, I was extremely happy.”

On being asked whether he had spoken to Vaibhav, who is currently touring Sri Lanka with the India A team, Sanjeev said, “Yes, we spoke. He was busy at the time, so I told him we would talk in detail later.”

Sanjeev also became emotional while recalling two special moments from his son’s cricketing journey so far.
“There are actually two memorable moments. The first was when he played his first IPL match and hit a six off the very first ball he faced. I was overjoyed. He scored around 34 or 35 runs in that innings, and I felt proud that my son had made it to the IPL. The second memorable moment was when he scored a century in a BCCI tournament. That was truly special for me,” said Sanjeev.

Finally, the proud father also had a word of advice for Vaibhav. “Now that he has been selected in the senior team, he must continue to work very hard. That is the most important thing. Secondly, he should always remain humble and keep his feet firmly on the ground. He must stay focused, work hard, score plenty of runs, and help India win matches. Every run he scores should contribute to the country’s success. That is what I want from him.”
