England vs India, Lord’s Test: First-ever Women’s Test as Beaumont prepares for her last dance

Lord’s, the Home of Cricket, is set to write a new chapter in the history of women’s cricket as it prepares to host its first-ever Women’s Test from July 10-13. Hosts England will take on India, with the stage set for a historic contest.
However, England will be looking for their first Women’s Test win over India since 1995. According to the MCC media advisory, more than 33,000 tickets have already been sold. The Test will also mark the celebration of 50 years since Rachael Heyhoe Flint first led England Women onto the main ground in 1976. Several members of that historic team are expected to be present, adding further significance to the occasion.
India, however, have enjoyed the upper hand over England in the red-ball format, winning three of the 15 Tests played between the two sides, while England have won only one and the remaining 11 have ended in draws. The record becomes even more concerning for the hosts at home, where they are yet to defeat India in Women’s Tests. In the nine matches played in England, India have won two (2006 and 2014), while the remaining seven have been drawn.
Adding further emotion to the occasion, veteran England opener Tammy Beaumont will play the final international match of her career after confirming her retirement plans on July 8. All eyes will be on Beaumont to see whether she can end her illustrious 17-year-long career with a memorable innings.

Players to watch
England – Tammy Beaumont
The veteran England opener is set to play the final international match of her career, and what an occasion it promises to be. The historic first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s will mark her farewell from the international duties.
Interestingly, Lord’s has not been Beaumont’s happiest hunting ground. In five ODIs at the venue, she has scored only 101 runs at an average of 20.20 without registering a half-century. With one final opportunity at the Home of Cricket, Beaumont will hope to finish on a high.
India – N Sree Charani
Given the recent success of spinners at Lord’s and her outstanding form, N Sree Charani could be in line for her Test debut. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable start to her international career, having been part of India’s ODI World Cup-winning side in 2025 before impressing throughout the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
She finished the tournament with 14 wickets in five matches despite India’s group-stage exit. Now, she appears set to make her Test debut at Lord’s. India will hope the young spinner can make a similar impact in the longest format.

Pitch and weather
The Lord’s surface has traditionally favoured seam bowlers in red-ball cricket. However, during the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, spinners enjoyed considerably more success than the quicks. Across the four matches played at the venue, including the final, spinners claimed 21 wickets compared to 12 by the seamers.
The new ball is still expected to offer assistance to the fast bowlers, particularly during the opening session. As the match progresses, however, the pitch could slow down, bringing the spinners into the contest. Batters who survive the initial spell are likely to have the opportunity to play long innings.
The weather is also expected to remain favourable throughout all four days of the match (July 10-13). Conditions are forecast to be a mix of sunshine and cloud, with temperatures expected to hover around 28-29°C. No significant rain is forecast, meaning the historic first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s is expected to proceed uninterrupted in front of a packed crowd.
