Women’s Hundred 2026: The Devine-Wareham Show in Cardiff

All-round brilliance from Sophie Devine and Georgia Wareham guided Welsh Fire to their first win of the ongoing Women’s Hundred in Cardiff.

Batting first, Welsh Fire got off to a solid start through Georgia Voll (42 off 26) and Ella McCaughan (27 off 23). However, it was the unbeaten 79-run partnership between Devine (52 off 29, strike rate 179.31) and Wareham (43* off 20, strike rate 215) for the fourth wicket that powered the hosts to 177/4 – the third-highest team total in Women’s Hundred history.

Devine and Wareham carried that momentum into their bowling, claiming two wickets each. Grace Potts picked up three wickets, while Sophia Smale (two) and Em Arlott (one) also chipped in as Welsh Fire bowled MI London out for 117 to seal a commanding 60-run victory.

Wareham was deservedly named Player of the Match and reflected on her partnership with Devine as well as the team’s bowling plans.

“Really nice wicket and a fast outfield. Batting with Soph at the end, pretty fun, and the wind was a big factor too,” she said.

“Wind going downhill… trying to go into the wicket. Everyone who had a ball in their hand did their job. Keeping the stumps in play.”

Welsh Fire will next take on Trent Rockets in Cardiff on July 29 as they look to build on to their winning momentum.
