Women’s Hundred 2026: Jemimah’s Patience Paves the Way for Southern Brave

Jemimah Rodrigues was the saviour for Southern Brave as they registered a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Leeds in the ongoing Women’s Hundred in Leeds.

Rodrigues remained unbeaten on 42 off 34 balls, guiding Brave to the 117-run target with five wickets and four balls to spare.

Earlier, Southern Brave’s bowlers bundled out the hosts for just 116. However, the chase became tricky after the visitors lost three early wickets for 36 runs, including Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt.

At that stage, Rodrigues was unbeaten on just two from seven balls. She first stitched together a crucial 35-run stand with skipper Sophie Molineux. Although Rodrigues struggled to find her timing early on, she held one end up. By the time Molineux departed for 21 off 17, the Indian batter had scored just 15 from 22 deliveries.

Jodi Grewcock then joined Rodrigues, and the pair added a match-winning 39-run partnership. It was during this stand that Rodrigues found her rhythm, scoring 27 runs from her next 12 balls. Her two consecutive boundaries off Sunrisers skipper Dani Gibson proved to be the turning point in the chase.

Rodrigues eventually sealed the victory with a reverse sweep off Jess Jonassen, helping Southern Brave make it two wins from two and move to the top of the points table with eight points.

The slow surface once again tested the batters, but unlike in her previous outing, Rodrigues showed patience. She took her time, built partnerships and accelerated at the right moment before staying unbeaten to see her side home.

Her composed knock earned her the Player of the Match award. “Not my most pleasing innings, but the team won, and that’s all that matters,” she said. “It was a good pitch; some balls held in the surface, and I felt I wasn’t timing it well. I just needed to stay there and build partnerships. My batting partners helped me.”

Southern Brave will next take on MI London in Southampton on 27 July.
