The India versus Sri Lanka Test series is the major talking point in cricket right now with the entire country looking forward to back-to-back wins in order to stay alive in the World Test Championship (WTC) race. However, one of the biggest points of focus has been the new spin sensation from Rajasthan, Manav Suthar. Ever since his debut in the Afghanistan series, he has shown his calibre and class.

After a magnificent six-for in the one-off series against Afghanistan, Suthar once again wreaked havoc against the Sri Lankan batting order and picked up a ten-wicket haul in the very first match of the series. Additionally, he generated more than 4.5 degree turn on 74% of his deliveries, which has become the talk of the town.

But behind those numbers and the growing reputation lies a story that began long before Suthar walked onto the international stage. From his early days in Rajasthan to the countless hours spent honing the craft, Suthar’s rise has been shaped by hard work and persistence. The people who watched his journey from close quarters testify to those qualities.

RevSportz spoke to his sister, Mansi Suthar about his growing up years and his journey from a young cricketer to someone who has now made a mark at the international level. Mansi said, “Manav was a very disciplined child and he was always very dedicated to sports. He was good at two or three other sports as well but cricket was always his main focus.

“My father actually played a very big role in his career. He supported Manav a lot and he always encouraged him to pursue cricket. He never put pressure regarding studies either. He always had one policy, ‘do whatever you like but give it your 100%’.”

Speaking about his training during the early days, Mansi stressed on the level of discipline and dedication that he always had. “He used to spend several hours at practice. He never made any excuses, no matter how busy a day was. It was always school, coming back home and then going for practice. He never complained about this hectic schedule either because he genuinely enjoyed the game and wanted to always give his best.”

“He made many sacrifices from a very young age, including missing outings, spending less family time and even giving up many of his favourite food items,” she further added.

For Mansi, however, all the wickets and milestones ultimately lead back to one moment; the day her brother finally realised the dream he had chased for years. Recalling his India debut, she said, “The feeling when he made his India debut was amazing and honestly, it is difficult to describe in words. We are all very proud of him.”

For those who watched him grow, the Indian cap is not just a symbol of success. It is a reminder of every step, every sacrifice and every dream that came before it. And if his performances are anything to go by, this may only be the beginning of his story on the international stage.
