Anushka, Niki and Minnu script historic 363-run chase as India A seal unofficial ODI series 2-1 against Australia A

A remarkable effort from India A Women saw them chase down a mammoth target of 363 against Australia A Women in the third unofficial ODI in Mohali, sealing the three-match series 2-1. In the series decider, the home side conceded 362 before completing a historic chase with four wickets in hand.

Chasing 363, India A needed a solid start, and the opening duo of Tanisha Singh (60 off 58) and Vrinda Dinesh (34 off 31) provided just that, putting on 67 for the first wicket. However, Australia A hit back with three wickets at regular intervals to reduce India A to 119/4 in 19.4 overs.

With Yastika Bhatia unavailable for the match, Anushka Sharma took over the captaincy. The skipper and Niki Prasad then took responsibility, adding 91 runs for the fifth wicket from just 63 balls. Anushka was eventually dismissed for 58 off 42, making it three consecutive fifties in the series after scores of 55 in the first game and an unbeaten 60 in the second.

At that stage, India A needed 153 runs from 119 balls, with all-rounder Minnu Mani joining Niki at the crease. She ensured the momentum generated by Niki and Anushka continued, and the pair added 107 for the sixth wicket in just 12.5 overs.

Niki was unfortunately run out after scoring 76 off 71, but Minnu remained unbeaten to finish the job for her team. Jintimani Kalita provided valuable support, remaining unbeaten on 19 off 19, while Minnu smashed an unbeaten 88 off 56 at a strike rate of 157.14 to guide India A to a sensational win with 10 balls to spare.

Earlier, Charli Knott and Courtney Webb were the standout batters for Australia A. Knott smashed 109 off 70 at a strike rate of 155.71, while Webb contributed 95 off 92. Niki also made a significant contribution with the ball before her 76, claiming four wickets. Vaishnavi Sharma also picked up a four-wicket haul.

In the previous match, India A had a golden opportunity to seal the series after setting Australia A a target of 339. However, the visitors produced an excellent chase to win a high-scoring thriller and keep the series alive.

Australia A Women had earlier won the unofficial T20I series 3-0. Attention will now turn to the only unofficial Test between the sides, which will be played in Mohali from September 29 to October 2.
