Massive Crackdown in Bengal Cricket: U-19 World Cup Star Ravi Kumar Among 65 Bengal Cricketers Banned in Major Age Fraud Sting

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has widened its administrative purge, barring 65 players from registration and transfers due to documentation issues and age fraud. The sanctions render the full list of 65 cricketers ineligible for any tournament across the 2026–27 and 2027–28 domestic seasons. Among those penalised are 12 players who previously represented Bengal in age-group cricket and were subsequently found to have major date-of-birth discrepancies. Headlining this list are former India Under-19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar and promising leg-spinner Rohit Yadav.

The Case of Ravi Kumar

Pacer Ravi Kumar, originally from Aligarh, was an instrumental figure in India’s victorious 2022 Under-19 World Cup campaign in the West Indies. He delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 34 in the final against England, paving the way for India to secure a record-extending fifth U-19 world title. He picked up a total of 10 wickets in six matches in the tournament.

Despite his international success, official CAB records list Ravi Kumar (Code 7570) with a major age discrepancy of 45 months. The documentation issues extend across his registered domestic tenure, invalidating participation records spanning from the 2021–22 season through his 2025–26 appearances across Under-19, Under-23 and senior squads.

BCCI Sanctions on Rohit Yadav

Leg-spinner Rohit Yadav was recently selected for the India Under-19 squad ahead of a high-profile series against Australia. However, following the identification of birth-record irregularities, the BCCI stepped in to impose a two-year ban on Rohit with immediate effect, alerting all affiliated state associations.

According to the CAB’s discrepancy logs, Rohit (Code 12438) carries a 27-month age discrepancy. His barred registration directly compromises his scheduled involvement across the 2024–25 (U-19) and 2025–26 (U-19, U-23) campaigns.

Major Discrepancies Among Age-Group Cricketers

The 12 age-group cricketers embedded within the 65-player de-registration list reflect severe multi-year falsifications.

• Arun Kumar Chaurasiya (Code 9623) recorded the largest falsification, carrying an age discrepancy of 115 months (over 9.5 years) for the 2023–24 U-19 season.
• Mahipal Yadav (Code 12468) logged a discrepancy of 97 months for the 2023–24 U-19 season.
• Prabhat Maurya (Code 6989) registered a 57-month discrepancy across multiple U-19 and U-23 seasons.
• Amrit Raj Upadhyay (Code 7756) and Dilshad Khan (Code 7575) showed discrepancies of 48 months and 46 months, respectively.
• Other age-group players penalised include Anubhav Tyagi (36 months), Kunal Kumar (35 months), Vineet Maurya (32 months), Kushal Gupta (26 months) and Parmit Singh (12 months).

The collective debarment of 65 players signals a decisive clampdown by the CAB and the BCCI to root out systemic age fraud and enforce stricter scrutiny of documentation across grassroots cricket.
