Monty Desai expected to take over as Gujarat head coach

Monty Desai is set to be named the head coach of Gujarat. As per sources, Desai’s appointment “is in the process” of being finalised in the next few days.

Desai recently stepped down as the coach of Canada after overseeing a couple of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series. Incidentally, this was his second stint with Canada.

Desai has also coached Nepal and the UAE. He has also held key roles with IPL franchises such as Gujarat Lions and Rajasthan Royals, alongside the West Indies.

Desai had a successful stint with Nepal, helping them qualify for the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Asia Cup in 2023. In 2018, he was also named the head of the Andhra domestic team.
