India A Women overcame a mid-innings wobble to finish Day 1 on 351/9 against Australia A Women in the only unofficial Test in Mohali on Tuesday, with Tanisha Singh (92) and Niki Prasad (78*) leading a strong recovery.

After opting to bat first, the home side made a solid start, courtesy a 102-run opening partnership between Priya Punia (46 off 65) and Shubha Satheesh (59 off 117). However, after Priya’s dismissal, Australia A triggered a mini-collapse, picking up three more wickets for 18 runs to reduce India A to 120/4.

Lilly Mills, the 25-year-old off-spinner, accounted for Shubha, skipper Yastika Bhatia and Tejal Hasabnis.

Anushka Sharma then steadied the innings with a crucial 44. Coming off a good run of form in the recent three-match unofficial ODI series, she put on 82 with Tanisha for the fifth wicket to help India A regain momentum.

Tanisha took charge from there, finding the gaps with confidence and reaching her half-century before combining with Niki for another important stand. Their 111-run partnership for the sixth wicket took India A past 300.

Tanisha fell eight runs short of a century, dismissed for 92 by Tess Flintoff, but Niki continued to keep the scoreboard moving. She became the third India A batter to reach fifty and remained unbeaten on 78 off 99 balls at the close of play.

Australia A’s bowlers worked hard, with their spinners doing most of the damage. Mills and Charli Knott claimed three wickets each, while leg-spinner Frankie Nicklin took one. Flintoff and Milly Illingworth also picked up a wicket apiece.
