Records galore for South Africa Women skipper Laura Wolvaardt as she smashed her fourth WT20I century in Bulawayo on Tuesday. Her unbeaten 126-run knock hit the headlines as the Proteas Women eventually sealed the ongoing five-match WT20I series against Zimbabwe with an 80-run win in the third match.

Batting first, the visitors smashed 200/1 in 20 overs, courtesy of an unbeaten 173-run partnership between Wolvaardt and wicketkeeper-batter Karabo Meso (unbeaten 50 off 51, her maiden WT20I fifty). However, it was all about the Proteas Women skipper, who was having a rough time in this format heading into this clash. In the previous eight innings, she had managed only 150 runs.

Finally, she responded with 16 fours and four sixes in her innings, striking at 203.22 and leading from the front. However, courtesy of this knock, several records were achieved by Wolvaardt, as follows:

Highest individual score for a Proteas Women batter in T20Is – Wolvaardt surpassed the previous best of unbeaten 116 by Shandre Fritz against Netherlands in 2010.

Only Proteas Women batter to score 3000+ T20I runs – After this mammoth knock, Wolvaardt is now the first-ever South Africa Women batter to score more than 3000 runs in T20Is, with 3040* runs in 101 innings.

2nd joint-most WT20I centuries overall – Wolvaardt and Sri Lanka’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu now have four WT20I centuries each, joint-second most in the overall list.

Joint-most international centuries in Women’s Cricket – Wolvaardt also equalled Team India opener Smriti Mandhana in terms of having scored the joint-most international centuries in Women’s cricket history. Both batters now have 18 international centuries across formats.

However, the home side, while chasing, were eventually bundled out for 120 in 19.3 overs, with Annerie Dercksen starring with a five-wicket haul as South Africa sealed the series with an unassailable 3-0 lead with two more matches to go.

The fourth T20I is set to be played at the same venue on September 17.
